There is a big difference between being pain free and returning to sport. At SHP we understand not only the need to help resolve the problem but also the need to get you back to sport. Our team have worked for various sports clubs and have treated both amateur and professional sports people of all ages. We have also had work published (see our Evidence-based practice webpage) in the area of restoring psychological wellbeing of injured sports-people and our Consultant Physiotherapist (Dr Massimo Barcellona) has lectured in the NHS, private and educational sectors on sports-specific rehabilitation and return to sport.
Massimo completed his PhD in the rehabilitation of individuals following ACL injury. He, and the team at SHP, have specific expertise in both the conservative and the post-operative management (from immediately following surgery to return to sport) of this client population. Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury accounts for almost half of all injuries to the knee. Rehabilitation plays a pivotal role in the successful management of this condition. The majority of ACL injuries will be best managed by surgical reconstruction but a proportion of individuals will be suitable for conservative management. For our team’s research publications and ongoing research in this area see our Evidence-based practice webpage.
